Position Overview

McPhee Electric, a Phalcon Company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to support the pursuit and successful delivery of complex electrical construction projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and executable estimates across a broad range of electrical opportunities while helping shape project strategy from concept through award.

The Electrical Estimator works closely with executive leadership, operations, project management, engineering, field teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to evaluate opportunities, identify project risks, and develop winning preconstruction strategies. This position plays a key role in supporting successful project execution by providing reliable cost analysis, technical insight, and strategic planning throughout the estimating process.

Projects may include utility infrastructure, transmission and distribution systems, substations, renewable energy facilities, industrial installations, commercial construction, mission-critical facilities, and other electrical infrastructure projects.

What You'll Do
• Lead the estimating process from concept development through final bid submission.
• Prepare conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, GMP proposals, and competitive bid packages.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and owner requirements to define project scope and risk.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing analyses.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates.
• Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, constructability concerns, and project risks.
• Present estimate reviews, bid recommendations, and pricing strategies to leadership.
• Support bid strategy development and project pursuit planning.
• Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Monitor market conditions, material pricing, escalation risks, and supply chain impacts.
• Develop procurement strategies for major equipment and long-lead materials.
• Support project buyout planning and turnover activities.
• Partner with operations, project management, engineering, and field leadership teams throughout the preconstruction process.
• Participate in client presentations, proposal reviews, and preconstruction meetings.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and industry partners.
• Mentor junior estimators and help promote estimating best practices and process consistency.

What You'll Bring - Required Education, Certification and Experience
• Seven (7) or more years of electrical estimating experience.
• Experience estimating electrical construction projects for an electrical contractor or subcontractor.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, labor productivity, and construction means and methods.
• Experience developing detailed cost estimates and competitive bid proposals.
• Proficiency with:
• Accubid
• Bluebeam
• Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to evaluate project risks, identify opportunities, and support strategic decision-making.

Preferred Education, Certification and Experience
• Experience estimating utility infrastructure, transmission and distribution systems, substations, renewable energy projects, medium-voltage electrical systems, industrial projects, or mission-critical facilities.
• Design-Build or Design-Assist project experience.
• Primavera P6 experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• Previous field experience in electrical construction, project management, engineering, or supervision.

Physical Demands

This position primarily operates in an office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and copiers. The employee may occasionally visit project sites and may be required to walk active construction areas, climb stairs, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when on jobsites.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily office-based with occasional visits to active construction sites, client locations, and project meetings. Site visits may require exposure to varying weather conditions, noise levels, and active construction activities while following all company safety requirements.
